How Mediums Receive Messages
Some people believe that being a medium is a rare gift reserved for only a select few. While strong mediums may have a heightened ability to receive and accurately interpret messages, the first myth to debunk is that everyone has the potential to communicate with their loved ones on the other side.
Every medium is unique and uses different "clairs"—senses that go beyond the physical—to receive and interpret information for their clients. These include:
- Clairvoyance (clear seeing),
- Claircognizance (clear knowing),
- Clairaudience (clear hearing),
- Clairempathy (clear emotional feeling) / Clairsentience (clear physical feeling),
- Clairgustance (clear tasting),
- Clairtangency (clear touching)
- Clairsalience (clear smelling)
Information can come either subjectively or objectively. Subjective information appears as thoughts, mental impressions, or visions perceived through the mind's eye. Some describe it as receiving a different kind of thought, one that feels distinct from ordinary thinking.
Objective information, on the other hand, manifests externally—such as hearing a voice or seeing an image outside the body. This form of perception, often exaggerated and dramatized by Hollywood, is less common in most people's mediumship experiences.
An example of what can look like Subjective vs. Objective:
Subjective:
A medium sees a mental image of a woman holding flowers (in their mind's eye). Objective:
A medium sees a faint, transparent figure of a woman holding flowers in the room.
Since most mediumship experiences are mental or subjective, many people often ignore the subtle messages they receive throughout the day. This can reinforce the misconception that mediumship is a rare gift reserved for only a select few. Doubting whether the information is real or merely a product of the imagination is a common experience for many mediums, especially those who begin developing their abilities later in life.
When you open your mediumistic senses to the spirit world, information will typically come through one or two dominant "Clair" senses.
My Mediumship Process and Experiences
I must admit, I was once quite sceptical myself. Despite being deeply connected to the spirit world from a young age, I often questioned the authenticity of the messages I received. This scepticism ultimately helped me sharpen my objective abilities, making my readings more precise. It also taught me that if I was willing to quiet my mind and put aside my own thoughts, these senses could become powerful tools to help others on their personal journeys.
One of the most mind-blowing realizations I had was the transformative power of soothing and co-regulation during readings. Witnessing how spirit messages bring peace, comfort, and healing to others inspired me and deepened my passion for offering readings.
When I establish a strong connection with spirit, I often receive messages through a combination of clairvoyance, clairsentience, and claircognizance. For example, clairsentience might cause me to feel a physical sensation in my body—such as tightness in the chest or pain in the head—indicating how the spirit passed away. At the same time, clairvoyance may present an image that provides further context for the message.
I have also experienced other forms of mediumship, such as:
Emotional Impressions:
I may suddenly feel a strong emotion—such as sadness, joy, or peace—that doesn’t originate from my feelings. This often indicates the emotional state of the spirit at the time of their passing or highlights a significant memory.Environmental Changes:
I sometimes perceive a sudden shift in temperature, like a cold draft, that coincides with the presence of spirit energy. This can serve as a confirmation that the spirit is nearby.
These various forms of perception help create a fuller understanding of the messages I receive, guiding me in delivering clear and meaningful insights to others.
Everyone has the potential to connect with the spirit world, though the way we receive information may vary. What distinguishes most people's mediumistic experiences from those of strong mediums is the ability to quiet their minds and detach from internal thoughts. Strong mediums can clearly differentiate between their own inner voice and messages from the spirit world.
By developing your senses, learning to trust your experiences, and quieting your thoughts, you can deepen your connection to the spirit world and begin to recognize the subtle messages that are always present.
